Wife's Headshot

My wife's company took headshots for their corporate needs last week. She came home and asked if I could also take some just in case.

I had my workspace setup for things, not people, but I quickly setup a 2-light stage, metered, and shot away. This is what I came up with for her:

She just got back the photos from the paid photographer and suffice to say, she is using my shot.

pesky clients always want more than they can afford.

To be fair, his group shots were decent, but the headshots were so flat, boring, and unflattering and I hate that dated blue backdrop.

Fun Fact: My image is pretty much SOOC--It's just been cropped (and has my standard import presets applied).

Really good job on the shot. I also did one for my wife earlier this year in the media room with no windows for more control of the lighting. Your lighting turned out better than mine, all I had to use was a single bounced light.

You have beautiful wife and your shot is better. She is also more relaxed in yours. One thing though. I find her right side especially her forehead a little too hot for my taste compared to her left side and should be toned down. Nice shot.

Lovely wife, lovely photo. And I concur with the comments about you married up.

Love the energy in the photo...very professional yet also dynamic. Not sure if you asked for C&C here...my advice would be to burn away a few spots...some of the wrinkles/folds in the clothing on her right side (blouse and jacket). Add a little color to minimize the hot spot/glare on her forehead....very minor stuff.

Like I said, there really wasnt any post-processing on that shot. No blemish clean up, no playing with sliders, just imported the photo in LR, cropped it, exported to PS to clean up hairs off the jacket, and saved it.

The light was on that side, therefore it should be hotter--but It's not blown out. That light was at f/8 and the fill on her left was at ~f/4, I did this purposefully. IMHO, highlights are just as important as shadows--they both define form--you start removing them and things look unrealistic. The light source is HUGE, within a foot or two, and was metered for--that's why the highlights aren't specular on her cheek and nose.
