Here are some more zoo pics that I took from this past Saturday, that I have had a chance to process and get them posted.

1. Lioness - She was just so gorgeous sitting there, I couldn't resist snapping her photo.

2. Red Macaw - This beauty, well was being stubborn. Didn't want to pose for me, like the blue macaw ... therefore, I found her to be a challenge to get a decent photo of.

3. Thinking Chimp - This ole girl was just pure entertaining. I had to snap her pic!

4. Old Elephant - Just a gorgeous beast!

I think 1 and 3 were the best shots. The bird in 2 looks like it was shot from an awkward angle and seeing the trunk of the elephant in 4 would've been nice. 3 is nice though. Did you try a devignette vs. vignette? I think it would be great with the latter, but that might be just me.

I can show it without the vignetting, just to show you what it looked like. I did try it with both, I personally liked it with the vignetting!

I wish I would have been able to get the whole trunk, she was being feisty. She kept moving on me and I couldn't get the best of photos of her, but I thought that was a decent one.

Seeing the original photo would be great. By the way, I noticed a lot of graininess. Is that post processing or just really high ISO?

In which one?

Ahahha -- I can't get the vignetting removed in LR3. LOL. I didn't keep a copy of the original either, damn it!

As far as the red macaw photo goes, I wasn't in an akward position, she was being akward.

Checked the photos in LR and I'm not showing any grain was added to it at all.

I don't see what you see :D

Hm, maybe it's just me. What ISO did you shoot at? At 100 crop, these still look slightly noisier than the usual daytime 100-400ISO range.

I'd have to look I don't know the exact ISO at the top of my head. Damn you had to zoom in to get all that! I sure wasn't seeing what you were seeing.

I've been playing with a bunch of my settings on my camera, so it's possible the ISO was large!

Hmm I didn't notice the odd noise at first (auto resize on the forum was actually doing you a favour - for once ;)) however looking at the larger sizes I agree these do look like something odd is going on.
Out of interest what camera did you use to take these shots and what settings were you using for each shot?

I used a Nikon D40.

Here are the settings for the photos:

1. ISO 200 300mm f/8.0 1/500sec

2. ISO 280 300mm f/5.6 1/125sec

3. ISO 400 300mm f/6.3 1/125sec

4. ISO 200 300mm f/8.0 1/200 sec

Pull up your EXIF! I don't think it was anywhere < 1000ISO, but look at the EXIF to make sure. It could be other factors...

EDIT: Oh, then it's probably not ISO then...hmm...this is an awkward situation.

EDIT2: What does the histogram in Lightroom look like for let's say...photo 1?

I pulled the meta information from the photos in LR3. Maybe it was done in post editing, I'm not quite sure what could be causing it. I didn't notice it until you said something, but that is cause I'm still training my eye to the stuff that you guys see.

Take a look at my second edit. And don't worry, I'm still a beginner also and we all have something that needs work!

EDIT: Btw, just came to me. If you cranked up sharpening or definition, that could be the cause of the noise...

Over sharpening and adding a lot of brightness to a dim/dark shot are two ways you can increase the amount and visibility of noise in a photograph. How did you edit these shots?
