Window and Door, Mennonite Church, Mohnton, Pa

Here's a detail from a small church I drove by last weekend. I'm a sucker for white paint and stone.

I like the composition too, but I think I would have punched up the whites a bit more and sharpened it to enhance the textures.
Personal choice of course, but I think your version is a touch too grey and soft.

Thanks. I held back to around 253 along the left edge of the door, but your version broke the bank at 255 along that same side. Like you said. Personal choice. Thanks again.

I'm a little confused Charlie. The entire door frame is in the frame. Are you referring to the threshold stone?

Yep...I suppose. I am referring to the LHS of the threshold. The entire comp is nicely balanced IMO with the the two spaces....with the offset making this an interesting shot. I suppose this image leaves me wanting to see the entire threshold...the RHS of it is a main part of the image....along with the window. Just missing the LHS of the threshold, as you said. The grid of the bricks and mortar is striking......awesome for black and white.

Nice b&w I like it, but you know me, always some "beef". This time i don't feel right about cutting the frame just above the ground, it is like unfinished sentence. I love the shadow in the door recess but I don't like the shadow on the window shutters. I know, it was beyond you, yet it is "smudging" the very clean lines of your subject.

Thanks everyone for the comments. For those who didn't like the bottom crop, I did another. After doing it, I agree. The original was cropped at an awkward location. I also agree about the shadow on the shutters and stone. This is close enough that I may make another trip at a different time of day. Anyway, what says you folks about the new crop? No. 100% serious.

You're playing with lines, textures and shadows. That's all lovely stuff. Plus doors and windows are somehow naturally interesting for some reason.
