Wine Bottle

Could anyone give me a rough idea on how to
set up and shoot a wine bottle to look like this; Jax Vineyards

Are they using natural light?

It would seem they're using natural light diffused by a sheer curtain on the left side, but that would leave no light on the right, plus a shadow on the white BG, and it would not likely be white. So my guess is a few thousand dollars in lighting equipment

Looks like they have simply used a flash with a soft-box on the left with a reflector on the right hand side of the bottle.
It doesn't appear to be natural light. However I'm sure with some work the same effect can be achieved with just natural light.

There's a large square white foam-core board on the left creating the reflection both in the wine bottle AND in the fork. There may be one on the right but it looks like they're kicking the light into the board on the left and leaving the right in shadow. There may be a black card in the background (based on the reflection on the fork.)

Shooting these shots is often about creating the reflections. It's glass and metal. You're going to get reflections regardless. Using the white cards allows you to guarantee what shows up in the reflection and the affect it has on the image.

I have a small stack of both white & black foam core boards from the craft store.

You need a large 4x6 4x8 sheet of foam core as your light source.... you light the foam core evenly and use it for your source...distance from source to bottle can vary depending on the highlight effect you are going for......on the other side of the bottle use another foam core as a fill but not lit, it will catch some light from your main source. You will have to play with the angles and the near far to the subject bottle

Thanks, for giving some starting idea's. Mully if I used a light to light a foam board for the left - where would it be positioned? Top? maybe

I've attached an attempt at the shot using every one's advice please see attached - any idea's for improvement?

When you light the foam core use a large soft box and light the mid area that would strike the bottle. If you use a hot light or strobe with just a head you will get a hot spot on your bottle as in your example photo. The fork in your photo the teeth are "looking" up so you need to use another reflector so that the teeth do not end up dark. I would practice with just the bottle, this way you will understand what you are doing better. Try making an environment with the bottle....I will look for an image I might have digitally that I can show you a reference

This is not the best example but all I could find digitally as it was shot for the glassware and not the bottle ...that is why the label is not showing but you can see what i was talking about the light source and using an environment... you can PM me if you run into problems.

They've used one striplight from the left, and another one from the right at half power (of the left one).

This could explain the difference in the highlight between the two.
The one on the left is cleaner. The left highlight seems to curve around the bottle.
May help if the foam board was closer? The fill light on the left is also wider.
Will I need strip lights to achieve this?

I own this book, and I can tell you they use a wine bottle and go you through different set ups, and different effects

Now you are seeing the effect of the soft light the board makes..... the closer to the bottle the wider it becomes ....these are looking much better.
