Winter project week 3

Week 3 of my winter project "learning to take studio portraits". Any advice will be helpful and appreciated

My only critique is for #1, did you over 'shop his eyes a little? And he appears to have one long hair in his left cheek beard.

Lighting looks good (to me) on both and your model in #2 has a wonderful expression on her face: she looks like the kind of lady I'd trust to babysit my grandkids.

I'll work on the beard. I didn't do anything to his eyes in #1. Oh and looks can be deceiving but I'll let her know she'll be happy to hear that.

Thanks. I used what @Derrel suggested "Main light off to one side, but the fill light placed right by the camera, aimed straight ahead" I used a Flashpoint 320m strobe camera right shot in 24"x 24" soft-box with egg crate placed 45* 45*up and a 320m shot into an umbrella next to the camera on left side. For the first shot I also had a flash behind to the right.

Keeping actual fill lights ( lights, not reflectors) on-axis helps prevent competing, dual key light sources. With the fill light right next to the camera and aimed straight ahead, it gives natural lighting effects-- not "dueling shadows", one on each side of the nose.
