Do you think the end of the branch being cut off hurts this? I'm undecided... I can't remember if it was actually touching the ground or not. I'll have to go back when I get over this cold...

Can't say without seeing what's out of frame on the left. The problem I have with it is that the branch isn't well separated from the background above it and the other trunk just below and to the left. This could be improved by a lot of selective darkening. I would also crop on the right until only part of the nearly vertical trunk remains along the right border - this eliminates some distracting stuff on the right edge.
