LOL, less than an hour after ordering a D7100 and being worried about the speed and buffer I get this :) I was at my normal spot when I heard/saw either a falcon or a harrier. It led me deeper into the woods. I paused for a second to see if I heard it again when I got this uneasy feeling I was being watched... Comments welcome

I turned to my left and saw these 2 big eyes starring back at me...

The Owl took off but didn't fly to far. As soon as I raised my camera....

So there you have it. The D300 only missed 1 out of 6 shots and I somehow caught this at 1/500th sec. This is why us crazy birders need a good burst rate and a quick clearing buffer...

Nice series.....you've got to feel good about that one.

Funny, to me the talons almost look like rabbit feet in the 5th shot.

Cool set! Nice to see that somewhere in North America there's still some blue skies and leaves left...

I always like your shots would love to be able to do it that well.

love it! #4 is my fav. less branches obstructing him, big wingspan with full wings, nice tail spread. great shots.

Derrel, I'm in vegas right now, plenty of blue skies out here. :D

Very nice. I think you might be surprised with the 7100. Nice camera for the price.

Love great horned owls. Kinds torn between #2,#3 and #4 Nice job.

Kris, congrats on the "catch". You were obviously in the right place at the right time.
