Would you buy a camera on ebay?

I have purchased a camera, reusable ink cartridges, filters and a slew of other products off Ebay with no issues at all. Camera stuff like Cameras and lenses are something not such a great deal. some people believe their used toys should be worth as much as the new version. Gotta play cost watcher to make sure you are getting a deal.

I never understand why people sell their used camera stuff on ebay. It seems easy enough to find someone local on Craigslist. Plus you have to worry about shipping, insurance, etc.

I do because I can typically you can get more $$ on ebay (at least enough to make up for the 10% in ebay/paypal fees).

And dealing with shipping is a heck of a lot easier then dealing with people wanting to drop by and check the items out in person.

My only skepticism with Ebay is the whole greymarket thing. With something like a D700, you most certainly want a camera that can be repaired and serviced in the U.S. JMHO :) Thumbs up to the D700, though!

Most auctions will include a photo of the serial number of the camera, so you can avoid gray market versions. Just don't buy from one that doesn't.

......... Because with Ebay you can return it.

Not always. It's determined by the seller what the return policy is.

Nothing's forcing you to buy from a seller that has no return policy--all that information is up front before you bid.

Also, if a seller represents an item's condition as "working" and it arrives broken or with some non-cosmetic problem that he did not disclose, ebay will force them to accept a return refund your $$ regardless of his return policy. The only auctions that you are not protected are the ones where the condition is advertised as not working or "for parts."

new in box with 99.3% positive feedback with a total of 30,924. about 200 bucks cheaper than most other places with free shipping....

Thats pretty good. Got my Canon xt off ebay. Good find.

That's assuming they're still a registered user and have money in their PayPal account to cover it. If they've been banned by ebay, or emptied their PayPal account, you're still SOL.
