Very shallow DoF when set to f2.8

You drive a Chevy it looks like? ;)

Nope, actually drive a Toyota =)

For Sami, this was shot with my 85mm. I believe this was at f1.8, but I was quite far away from my car in order to get it in the frame. That violet-ish color on my front grill and front wheel is a reflection from a car across from mine (I like to keep my car that clean. lol).

Thanks :)

That's a tough one. It really depends on what I'm shooting tho. The 85 and 100 are not everyday, walk around lenses, so they have their time and place for use. I can use the 30mm just about everywhere since it's a perfect focal length for me. It's not as sharp as the 85 or 100 though, even after sending it into Sigma to get calibrated. But it is the lens that's always on my camera. Of note, the 30mm is pretty big and heavy for its focal length.

Him answering that question won't really have any bearing on your choice. What you plan to shoot will have a bearing. If you're more interested in shooting people, get the 85/1.8. If you're more interested in macro, get the 100/2.8 macro.

Everyone is different. I shoot 35/1.4, 50/1.4, and 85/1.4 most of the time. I shoot people and events, so they work well for me. Sure, I have a macro in my bag, but I use that very seldomly.

It really all boils down to what you're going to shoot. I'll tell you right now from an objective standpoint, both the 85mm and 100mm are going to be very restricting indoors on your APS-C camera body. The 85 will be more workable and also let's in 1 1/3 more stops of light than the 100mm. So that means that you'll have a much greater ability to shoot in low light with the 85mm. The 85mm will not focus as closely as the 100mm macro, but it will achieve focus faster overall.

You can get excellent subject/background separation with an 85mm @ f/2.2. it doesn't need to be wide open.

Keep in mind that these are shot with the sigma 85mm f/1.4 on full frame bodies. But still, you could get pretty similar shots with an aps-c body

^ yeah, what he said. That's why I wanted to make sure you will be interested in macro because I don't want you to buy a lens that you won't be using a lot. Like I said, my 30mm f1.4 lens is my everyday lens.

I'm always up for new things!
