First guess was woodpecker (perhaps a Downy).

I've been told no- it's a yellow-bellied sap sucker.

What ever it is- it was outside my window at lunchtime today. Snapped this thru a dirty kitchen window.

Nice! And although I've never actually seen one, I don't think you were steered wrong on the ID.

He was TOTALLY going to town on my tree:

Sure is. Nice shot.
Thanks, Hunter58! Ansel Adams said that photography was about knowing where to stand. In this case, it was in front of my kitchen sink. ;)

Thanks, Baturn. Working on getting to know my birds better!

nice shots of that stupid yellow bellied sap sucking fool, lol.. i dont know it just sounds like some sort of negative thing you would call someone you did not like. hahah

i think we have those around these parts but i have not seen one yet, nice set..

Well your image is of a female or perhaps a juvenile because it doesn't have a red throat like the adult male does. I can see it being a recent photo in Oklahoma. Further East like in Missouri they are probably gone in December. Nice captures. There certainly are a pretty bird.
