Your feedback appreciated before hanging print

I agree about which looks better, over the hearth, but it does leave a little too much space to the left. It looks good there but seems a little too large for that space (but I like the color and pattern in the photo). It looks somewhat out of proportion with the smaller framed art (we only see the side view here).

What about showing it to her in the space you originally had in mind? or even any other wall space?? maybe show her a couple of options, but let her see it where you were thinking about hanging it - of course she liked it above the mantle, it was empty space! which I think looks better with a print there.

Will there be any future decorating of this mantle? That might work better with a somewhat smaller print otherwise any décor (candles etc.) might block it.

center to opening, then spray the fireplace surround with this in silver: Dupli-Color :: Wheel Coating
Interesting idea, tho that screen and the andirons will be replaced in the near future. Thanks

I used that paint with mine (leftover) and it turned out great. There's a lot of metal flake in that paint. Just prep well.

Let me find a pic.

Well, thing is there were two smaller 8x10s located over the mantle before I removed them just to sit back and enjoy the print. And yes I would like to decorate the mantle a bit more, just not sure how best to accomplish the task. The pastel blue wall I intended to display the print is in the computer room. It doesn't get the traffic the living space does and she likes the print. Also, you make a good point, pointing out the smaller print on the side wall. Honestly, I didn't even notice until you mentioned it.
Thanks for your comments & suggestions :)

Looks beautiful! You've done an exceptional job. Sometimes I flinch at using products out of a spray can. When it comes to painting I usually spend a significant amount of time prepping then spraying. Cleaning metal, priming, sealing, base, then a clear for a topcoat. And of course these are two-part systems with the exception of the base coat. In summary just a lot of work, and pricy, but worth the effort in the end.
Thanks so much for taking the time to comment & upload your picture. :)

I wish I had an upclose pic, because it really did turn out well. Too bad we only did it AFTER we listed the house for sale.

That said, ugh. It's much too big for that space, what on earth is your wife thinking?
I agree with this. As someone who has spent most of the last 40+ years in the interior design business, that would be the last place I'd recommend for a picture that large. You'll get a sore neck looking up at it like that. It isn't a bad place for pictures though - smaller pictures. I would not recommend 2 though. Make it either 3 or 5, depending on the size. If 10w x 8, three. If 8w x 10, none - these will present the same neck straining issue the single larger image will. If 7w x 5, three or five. If 5w x 7, five. These do not have to be centered on the mantle. You can use mantle accessories in conjunction with the pictures to determine where the pictures should be aligned.

I agree with the majority to center over the fireplace. You may also want to consider a tall narrow knick-knack to the left to help balance out the empty area.

Ditto...

Jim - Thanks much for your thoughtful suggestions. I also agree with you regarding placement of landscape oreintation as opposed to portrait. Also, I've heard this rule before something about odd vr even number of images. I definitely will consider your ideas. With so much input from everyone its been awesome. Such a simple task can be truthfully be not so simple. Thanks again :)
