I bought it for what I bought was cheap, like $150 but then I realize that there was already a third, better version released.

I bought it to shoot the moon and journalism but it was too in soft to be any good.

It is, however, the most expensive piece of glass I have other than my camera (and I have the VR2) and gets used the least.

This is part of why I don't like mine. I hate having that much invested in something I rarely use. That's a lot of money (to me) tied up in a heavy brick on my shoulder that rarely come out. Selling it would be a big step towards a new body, which I think it's time for.

Are you open to trades? what body are you using now?

Probably not, unless it were in person, and Okinawa is a bit of a walk from here. Besides I can't decide what I want to do body wise. I'm currently shooting a t1i.

It's a Mark 1 lens anyway, so it's probably not what you're looking for.

I can't rightfully think of a truly disappointing purchase. Yes, I might have bought something cheap when there's a better version available, but the cheap one is all I needed.

I regret buying canon 70-200 f/4 and not getting the 70-200 f/2.8 is. Now I have to buy it again. Lesson learned. Other than that I love the lens.

Nikkor 50mm f1.8D. I traded my 18-105mm for it. I wish I would have grabbed the 50mm f1.2ais or 1.4ais.
nikkor 35mm f1.8G. If I did it again I would have grabbed a 20mm f2.8 ais
nikon D90. I would have bought it used instead of new or have just gotten a film camera as I would have a full darkroom by now if I would have gone that route.

It's definitely about budget there. If I had zero money left and needed or wanted something the money tied up in that lens would drive me nuts. I'm not in that situation so it's a ok. It really is SUCH a spectacular lens too...

And when I do use it, I give it a major workout. I've put about a thousand shots through it this week- all amazing. In fact, it's sitting in my lap on my D800 ... Crushing my legs... Right now.

It's a tie, between two lenses, for the biggest piece of chit zoom lens EVER foisted on the buying public. The first was a long time ago, and was a Zoom~NIKKOR 35-135mm Ai-S...I believe it was an f/3.5~4.5. Oh-My-Lord...wow...what an utter DOG it was. I bought it from my friend Michael...who had bought it from a friend...who had bought it from a friend...cough,cough. NOT sharp, low contrast, utter rubbish. This was about 1985. Man, that lens SUCKED. I would say it was the worst lens I had in the first part of my life.

Fast forward to 2001. I bought the Tokina AT-X Pro 28-80mm f/2.8 zoom. It quickly became known as "Der Flaremeister". And to make matters worse, I bought it brand-new, at full retail, which at that time was like $699 or something ungodly. It had a serious problem with light sources. If you even THOUGHT ABOUT shooting it toward the sun, or the bright sky, it would preemptively flare, as a way to make you reconsider the upcoming shot!

I don't regret the price. Just the Bokeh characteristics when stoped down. I wish it had 9 blades or round blades.
