Editing

I have been using a laptop for photo editing and am looking to upgrade to a desktop for increased capacity.
I am currently only running Lightroom but am looking at adding a couple more programs as well.
I don't want to spend thousands of dollars on one so am looking for suggstions.
Will a basic gaming unit work well speed and such.

It depends what rig you are looking at. Lightroom does better with a fast processor with 4 cores, so intel processors are generally better than AMD for running lightroom (as the AMDs have more cores but each core is slower). Lots of RAM and an SSD will help too. You shouldn't need a gfx card for lightroom unless you are using a 4k or 5k monitor, photoshop will use it for some functions though so a middle of the road gfx card capable of running games should be more than adequate.
