2nd Glamour shot

I am new to this and am in need of some C&C. Shot with 2 speedlights and umbrellas. 18-55 at 55mm on a canon 1000d.

Looks soft to me and I don't care for the centered composition. A closer crop might attenuate the disembodied head look.

Thanks for the feedback I didn't really notice the disembodied concept before. I'll play with the crop as it's still full sized now.

Photo is out of focus. The black shirt is not helping with the black background. It does look like a floating head.

T-shirts define glamour! Actually it's a shawl draped around here for a quick bare shoulder/covered option

I like this one much better. Did you whiten her teeth or they natural. I learned from PP is that whitening teeth to much is distracting. I have a lot of older pics with people with too white teeth. I love her hair. She is very pretty.

Not trying to be funny. Where is the glamour? You tell me because I'm lost. Decent enough portraits, apart from some obvious faults, but my question stands.

Better, BUT.... your camera will still work when turned 90 degrees counter-clockwise! Honest! And, interestingly enough, that is called "portrait" oreintation!




The focuse seems to have missed on this one as well. The hair on her head appears sharp, but the face & eyes seem a tad soft. That might be this monitor however. I'm a little puzzled by your light placement; what sort of lighting were you going for? When you're new to off-camera lighting, I recommend starting small. Use a single light, high and right, with a nice big softbox/umbrella, and then a big reflector at the oppposite shoulder. Not the most exiting lighting, but it will work. Your second light would have been MUCH better employed as either a background or rimlight to provide some separation, and lastly, while you've "embodied" the head here, we don't know whose harnds those are. If you'd used a portrait orientation you could have included her arms, and the image would have been, IMO, much stronger.

Just my $00.02 worth - your mileage may vary.

I have to agree; these are not what I would categorize as "glamour". If you want a good example of glamour photography, grab a copy of Vogue and go through that. In fact, it's an excellent exercise to go through magazines like that and try and reverse-engineer the lighting used in their cover and other major shots.

Yes, whitened teeth a bit not too much off from natural tho. May be too much I'll have a look at the original - thanks for the feedback

Ok guys I stand corrected on glamour. I'll do some reading up on it and have another go at it.
