i have a Sigma 120-300mm f2.8 no OS and am control atone selling it so I can buy a 70-200 OS F2.8 lens. The brand will either be a Nikon or Sigma. I have a Nikon D300s and Nikon D700. Should I sell my 120-300 to finance the 70-200?

Should you sell your Sigma ?
I dont think any of us can answer this question, only you know what is the right thing to do.
Just ask yourself
1.How happy are you with this Sigma lens
2.Will you use it once you will own a 70-200mm 2.8

I would also encorage you to consider the Tamron 70-200mm 2.8 VC
Its only 100$ more expensive then the Sigma 70-200mm 2.8 OS, its better then this lens in every parameter but the Sigma is still a very good lens.
I wouldn't recommend the Nikon 70-200mm 2.8 VRII is money is a problem, the Tamron has about the same performance for 1000$ less so I dont see why spend all this money just to enjoy walking around with a Nikon name on my lens.

Good luck

So I will sell my 120-300 and purchase a NIKON 70-200 VRII. F2.8. Would you do that? I only ask because I still get the 300mm out of the 70-200 on a crop sensor. Because the factor is 1.5 if I use it on my D300 or D700 I can still get the 300mm zoom out of it. This is the main reason for my question

From what I've seen the sigma 70-200 2.8 doesnt impress -- it shouldn't be on radar.

I'd consider the Tamron 70-2.8 VC over it. Then weight the cost:benefit of it to the Nikon...

200 is still less than 300 no matter the body. How often do you have your current lens racked all the way out?

with that same logic, you get 450mm currently on the crop body. you would need to also buy a 1.5x TC for the 70-200 to get the same reach.

As I was saying to Will Smith: "That, Detective, is the right question!"

I think the answer is simple. If you need the reach, keep what you got or go longer. If your under 200mm most the time then go shorter. The problem with teles is, if you want long and fast you better have a couple piles of money somewhere.
