A few from today (C&C Welcome)

My friend wanted to get some headshots done and I wanted to play with my new speedlights, here is the result.

C&C per req:

First off, #2 is the only head shot of the group; #1 is a full-body portrait and #3 is a shot of some stadium seating with what might be a person middle back.

Without knowing what specific purpose the 'shots are for (I'll assume modeling/theatre) the first thing that strikes me is exposure. You need at least 1/3 stop more image left. Shadows are good, but this is really too darki, and there's lost detail in his hair and on his shirt. The other issue is: Why did you pose him so close to the background. Brick walls are not great backgrounds (unless they really mesh with the style of the image, in this case I don't see that), and here all of the lines and patterns really distract from the subject.

The first image would be a great one for a male modeling portfolio IF it had a better background and a bit more exposure.

They're not bad, but there's definitely room for improvement. If these are for submission to an agency, I would suggest a little more research and a reshoot.

Thanks for the criticism, I appreciate it. I would have liked a more neutral background too, however it was REALLY windy and these were a couple of the only places we could find out of the direct wind as it was knocking down my umbrella(s). I know #2 was the only headshot but as it was more of just a day with my friend I included the other two, plus I don't think TPF wants to see 150 headshots of the same person .

I do plan on reshooting because for the headshot I couldn't trigger my second strobe as a slave due to ambient light. Thanks again for your C&C, will keep it in mind for next time.
