Neat subject - gives me some more ideas. If you are "bored" looking for things to use the macro lens on, buy a bunch of cheap flowers at the local supermarket and use them for subjects. I did that about a week ago and had quite a few things to play with - experimented with my flash, my extension tubes, etc. Then there are always kitchen utensils...
