The highlights don't bother me as much as the tilted horizon. It makes me want to grab her hand to keep her from falling out of the frame

And en if this was taken on a hill, there is nothing to suggest that so it just looks like it's a bit crooked

How in the world did you come up to that ridiculous idea? Sorry buddy, but its the photographer who makes the shot, NOT the camera. Blame the highlights on the body all you want, your only fooling yourself into thinking you actually have a clue.

Sorry, I'm not buying it. One of the hallmarks of a true artisan is to know the limitations of their tools and work within those confines and still produce results.

the whites are blown out as said, and you have to work on posing. For me posing is allot of work to get right, seems when you fix one thing another thing pops up that gets you. But it's definatly better then my first attempt.

In my experience, it is very difficult to photograph a dark-skinned person wearing a white outfit and get good exposures both in outfit and skin straight out of the camera. - the dynamic range of most dslrs isn't up to it.

Have her wear a darker neutral color and shoot her in a more relaxed pose, she looks strained in this one.

^^^ Exactly, in this case her skin is well exposed. To have exposed for her dress would have underexposed her skin.

I see these comments but after studio lighting and studio lighting advanced classes I just can't subscribe to that phenomenom. I agree with Traveler "right out of the camera" it may be "more difficult".......

By far the worst thing about this photo is her locked knees, it makes her looks horsey. Have her relax a bit more next time.

Men, how many cameras did you have since now? I can't believe you are unfamiliar with the camera's dynamic range.

I had a D80 until last year. At normal exposure, even inside, the whites were blown out. I had to shoot weddings RAW and torture myself for about two weeks on a single wedding to recover especially bride's dress highlights, as much as possible, in Lightroom. I hate D80 now.
I must mention that I have all my familly professional photographers since my grandpa', and I also managed a minilab bussines for 10 years. I have seen them all.

I switched to Nikon D90 at the end of the season and it was a fantastic relief. Very wide dynamic range, highlights where fine and I could recover much easyer overexposures. I have also used a D5100, and this one is just fenomenal.

Please don't argue anymore on this elementary knowledge. The man has the perfect exposure for the woman's skin. The camera just can't handle both lights.
