A slight dilemma, please help?!

I have met a fashion producer and director through LinkedIn. He invited me to come to his birthday party on this coming Saturday. My problem is that I have to work on Saturday. My real question is "It worths to skip my day job and attend his party?"

His birthday party?? not a professional event/party? That seems... unusual. My initial impression gut feeling is no... but maybe there's more to the story.

Isn't LinkedIn becoming some sort of site for hookups?? or something...

Do a search and see what comes up for him, on his Facebook page, etc. See if this birthday party is a large party where he's inviting half the people on planet earth! then maybe he's just asking anyone and everyone he's ever met.

You'll have to go with your gut on this one, and weigh all the variables. If you rarely call out on your day job, then doing so now shouldn't be much of a nuisance - but let anyone who needs to know, know ASAP. If you miss a lot of work, I'd skip the party. As Sharon points out, it may not turn out to be anything but a big social event where you barely chat with this person, and it's not worth risking the day job over.

OTOH, if you got the impression that it's a smallish group, populated by others in the industry who could be useful to meet on a social level, then networking is never a bad idea. You never know where things could lead.

I'm guessing you already know all of this, and want to see the pro/con list laid out for you to help you make up your mind. Be cautious, without being too afraid to take a minor risk. <--- That's a broad generalization that can be applied to a number of situations. This guy who raises his right hand up, Yep, he is legit. I was shooting at the outdoor fashion show a couple years ago. I never had a chance to meet him in person. He seen very nice when he walked across from me.

I realized my work schedule is 9am-3pm, and his birthday celebration is 7-10pm. Hopefully, I will make it in time. It is going to be a long commute for me.
