advice for manual photography, please

I was fooling around, while waiting for the new lens. I tried to upload an auto and manual photo (jpg), but the forum gave me a too large error.

Objects seem to turn out much better than people, noise-wise.

On another forum, someone solved my flash problem. The manual doesn't seem to mention this, but the flash will not fire if the pop-up flash is down. At least one problem solved for the Alpha noob.

The 17-55mm. lens arrived! I had a great experience with Adorama. Even the first few snaps without optimal lighting were improvements.

Now I can practice P and A mode, before I try manual. I have to learn the correct balances.

I've spent years getting a hold of the "right" lenses for my type of shooting.
