I have a B&W of this photo. . .I think I like both on their own merits. With the color, you can get a better sense of the texture maybe? Plus a horde of ants in color is just a bit more striking I am thinking. If I remember, this was also a 105MM shot; something about the glassiness of bubbles, and then seeing it form the boundry between the dirty water, and the dirty. . .dirt - a nice bit of division going on. Another divided shot. I actually got more than a few in this scene, from different perspectives, and I think they all have enough character on their own. Color wise, its blue, but I think the cast adds to it. . .maybe, maybe not. I will say a polarizer would have been appreciated, but I think the reflection doesn't take away that much. here and here.
Nice shots. Don't think I'd have noticed those ants in a black and white shot, in fact they're already rather hidden even in colour.
