What's new

Another Newborn.. I am in love with shooting them! :) CC appreciated.

and yes at the end I am dripping in sweat, I have to shower after my newborn sessions.... I crank my heat up, space heater.... having an assistant really helped, this baby was 19 days old, I like them under 10 days but oh well.

I am going to try to have an assistant for every newborn session from now on.

19 days old! How long was the session? Its frustrating how parents come in and want newborn/sleepy/posey shots of their babies when they are like a month old... :x

Wouldn't it be easier just to go to the kids house and bring the light? I haven't ever done one but it seems it would be easier. I really like the mom kissing the baby pic.

hell no it wouldnt be easier! LOL I have so much crap, backdrop stand, that rug is like 20lbs.... blankets, hats, bags of rice to hold my buckets steady.... I used to lug all my crap to their home, but changed my mind after a few times loading/unloading/setting up, tearing down....loading back up my van, driving home, unloading, repacking. nope. this stuff stays up in my spare living room, they come to me. Plus, I have drinks/snacks for mom, TV she can relax without having to worry about cleaning her house, or making me comfortable.

this session actually only took 2 hours, she was a GREAT sleeper, I am really giving credit to not having to hand mom baby ONCE in the entire session, she played angry birds on her cell phone, when I changed sets/props, I handed baby to my assistant. Usually baby will wake up between set changes because they smell mom. Plus I didn't have mom try to help me with poses.

I do, but I don't think they have the time either...

I would be interested in it for $60-

3, 4 & 5 are my picks too, and I like the edit of mom and baby alot too. Newborns are fun! and I totally agree with taking mom out of the process. Plus sometimes if baby is not 'behaving right' for the shot they REALLY want, they get so uptight that the baby feels it and it makes it so much worse! The more relaxed mom is the better the pictures! Sometimes even with older children it's best to just get mom to walk away!

how do u make them asleep and pose them?

You really are not a beginner anymore. I like them, I am doing a nine month maternity practice project for a friend and most likely will do the newborn, I like your style and ideas.

Thanks
I feel like a beginner still. I have so much to learn and I'm just getting started... When I go look at non beginners work I realize how much I have to learn.

You've come such a long way! These are just lovely =)

can I ask what kind of lighting you use, is it a soft box? I did a baby shoot for my freind with a kind of make shift/do it yourself studio using fluffy blankets and window light... Its obviously not my career but I would like to invest some money in some more equipment and im not sure where to start? Id appreciate any advice! Lovely pictures by the way :)

Did you pp #6? Baby's eyelids have zero creases and to me it looks over-softened compared to a couple others that do show the delicate folds?

I absolutely love the first two! So precious!!!!

I love the idea of taking moms out of the process. I have been involved in many sessions of my kids' shoots. They seem to do better without me in the room than with me watching or "helping";)

Very nice work!

Nope, not a beginner anymore!

Thanks for sharing...

I am inspired! I love newborn photography. I'm thinking this will be my calling! Are you self-taught? Do you do workshops or mentoring out of curiosity? I have a name of a amazing photogragher based out of Oregon, but travels often to-well pretty much everywhere! I am going to buy her how-to book on posing and lighting etc with newborns.
