Shot this one last weekend, next time I'm there I hope to get some interior shots.

For me, the B&W conversion that turns the sky such a dark grey against the brighter gray clouds (plus it looks like you may have used a circular polarizer?) is kind of distracting, mostly because at first glance it looked like smoke coming from the chimney, which of course makes the house look far from abandoned.

I like it otherwise though, and it looks like it will be a fun place to go back to.

Too much uninteresting foreground. You could crop it until the frame is almost square and get a better image, or go back and get closer or use a longer lens.

Yes, I did use a polarizer on that shot.

Ken, you don't like the foreground vegetation? Bummer, I was hoping that it gave the house a bit more of an isolated feel. Here's another shot from a closer angle:

Yeah, I prefer this. I was thinking horizontal also when I saw the original. I understand what you were trying for and I'm not really sure why it didn't work (at least for me) - perhaps the low angle just made the plants too large.
