Here is a photo shoot I did yesterday, C.C. always welcomed! Was done with my d5000 using a single light source(sb600) off camera with a ttl cord.

why? suggestions?

C&C per req:

1. Your light was at least one stop too hot, and you really need a reflector image left back to bring out a little detail on the child's right side. As well, your DoF is insufficient; for an image like this the whole face should be sharply focused.

2. I'm afraid I can't find the point of focus in this image. Why such a low shutter speed? Same comments as per #1 for lighting.

3. Okay, this image in particular tells me that you don't have a firm grasp on the concept of depth of field. Spend some time learning a depth of field calculator like this one to learn what apertures you should be using.

4. As per #3

Agree completely. I feel like the lighting and focus are off in all of these pictures, sorry.

Thanks! I will have to watch my DOF next time, as far as the lighting goes, my wife was holding the flash as we did not have a stand to use...so it made it difficult to make adjustments. Really appreciate the feed back, gives me some things to work on!
