Two 5 minute exposures and already my camera battery went down to 2/3 (was fully charged that morning). Next day, after only maybe 10 shots it went down to 1/3.

Does this mean the battery is kaput?

Depends on the camera, the camera settings, the age of the battery, the temperature, and many other factors. A five-minute continuous exposure is going to chew through a fair amount of battery power. Charge the battery fully, discharge it to ~10%, and then charge fully. Set your camera for average power consumption settings (short screen display time, AF Assist Lamp to off, etc) and see how it works. If you get significantly fewer exposures than you're used to, it's probably time to shell out for a new one.

Yeah I got all the settings in a nice place for the battery. They are a few years old, so I reckon it's their last breathes... Thanks all.
