Beginner Equipment

I've really wanted to start a hobby in photography and just need to know where to get started. I really want to do sports photography, team sports and action sports (snowboarding/skateboarding), so what equipment would i need to get started?

A camera, lens, and a memory card or three is all you need.

Sports photography is the second most expensive discipline (right after professional bird photography) requiring an extensive array of professional0level bodies ($5000+ each) and long, fast lenses ($5000 - $12000). Since that may be out of your budget right now, establish a budget, decide on critical features, and research bodies and lenses with those features.
