I went exploring a new town and found that they were having a bike race so I got a few shots and this was one.
Let me know what you think and if there is anything I should have done differently when I took the shot or anything I should do in post to help it.

I am a noob so please take my comments with a grain of salt. I think that there is too much dead space and that the subject should not be in the center of the frame. Maybe cropping on the right side of the picture some would help. Again I am a complete noob so my opinion may be way off.

To be really honest, I don't get much from this image at all. There's no clue that it's a race; to me, this is an image of someone riding their bicycle and that's it.

Without knowing more of the circumstances it's very hard to say what you could have done differently, but a few things come to mind: The sun appears to have been low in the sky, so you could have tried to do something with the shadow; shooting down from above, or tried a panning profile shot. I would have liked to have seen other riders in the shot as well.
A tighter and less centred composition would probably have been a good thing as well. It's not a bad shot, but, unfortunately, not overly exciting.
