Had a couple of headshot sessions today. It was my second client's birthday, so she got a little treat!

Key light directly above pointing slightly forward.
Tri-flector in front.
Hair light 45 degrees-ish behind and pointing 45 degrees-ish downwards - camera right.
Background light.
Birthday cake.
Champagne.

Forkie - maybe it's just me bit i see a big square of light on her forehead and some hot spots on her cheek, was that your intention?

Errr, I don't see that and I just zoomed right in on Photoshop I don't see any blown hotspots - I can see pores and nice pink skin and everything, even though my Mac retina screen is at full brightness!

Anyone else see what Rosy sees?

It's bright on my monitor but it's not calibrated. I'd believe a retina screen over all of mine anyday.

Another from the same shoot. Same girl. About 10-15 mins earlier.

Exactly the same camera settings as the birthday one and exactly the same lighting, except the background light was switched off.

There's a bit of difference between the two. Maybe the background is a little hot in the first one and your getting some wash back from it.

Yes, they are different by design!

The birthday one was just for fun at the end when I gave her a cake and some bubbly for her birthday. I intentionally blew my grey background to white it out and give a nice bright frame for her face. I have 18% grey paper which can be overexposed to white or underexposed to black.

I just thought some might find it interesting that you can get two such different looks with exactly the same model, clothes, light and camera settings.

First shot looks kinda "hot" on the skin tones to me. The Tri-Flector really adds a ton of eye-sparkle!

The second one I like everything but... I think it would benefit from a bit different pp. Her eyes are joyful and her expression is beautiful and calm and doesn't match with the pp... I just think that this pp is suited for some serious look, not for her

It was just a fun, off-the-cuff shot for her birthday at the end of a long headshot session, so I didn't really pay much attention to my aperture - I'd been shooting shallow a few minutes before. The second shot was the stuff I was really after!
