Blur swimming

Had some time to play around during the swimming and shot these. They were shot with a Nikon D3s, 400-2.8 (hand held) First one 10th second, f 18, 200 iso. Second one was 10th second, f8, 200 iso.

They have a nice, i.e. different quality from the otherwise supersharp, frozen water photos you would take during swim meets. Good for the faces to have remained sharp.

Very nice. Good to see someone trying something different. My only gripe is the contrast/color saturation on #2. It's a bit too high.

Thanks, ya I jumped it up a little too much. I shot alot of garbage getting a few that I liked. Different exposures etc. I think I would have had more usable ones if I had my monopod with me, but wasn't planning on playing. It got to a little tough hand holding the 400 2.8 steady at 10th and 8th second.

im a big fan of slow shutter speed photos. there was an article on pop photo last month about slow shutter speeds in sports. it inspired me to take some in hockey, golf and baseball. i do like what you did here, keep up the good work always try something different.

I've been playing aorund with the slow shutter speed stuff for decades, it was tougher with film, more expensive to play around. With digital you have that option of checking the exposures and shutter speed right away, I haven't any of this since I switched to digital 12 years ago, I was happy with the results. It's always good to be able to do this stuff in camera and not have to use photoshop for it, like so many people do.

Not being a sporty person, I normally find sports photos a bit "Meh" but these work really well. I'd have been worried about blurring the person while panning! I think the f/18 came out the best. The blowout on the hat of the second is annoying in the second, but both are excellent!
