I was wondering if you guys could suggest some good starting books for film photography B&W. I'm taking Photo 1 right now, and was hoping for a book that would provide:

- General composition / exposure basics.
- How to "find" subjects?

My trouble is just figuring out what to take, in my opinion. Please provide any suggestions that you may have read before! Here are two that I found, but they're not directly for film.

Creative Black and White: Digital Photography Tips and Techniques
Understanding Exposure (Bryan Peterson)

thank you!

Hmm, the Zone System is about controlling/manipulating the mediums (Camera, Film, and Print) to produce the image that was initially visualized ... not so much about Subject.

Ansel Adams wrote a book called "The Negative", which I read. It's pretty good. So was his book, "The Camera".

Hmm, though Ansel was not be best writer ... but I still covet the three books.
I would not suggest that for most photographers.

google these people:

Winogrand, Kertesz and Bresson

Check out books by Henry Horenstein:

The Art of Photography by Bruce Barnbaum is solid.

I haven't read all of it but the little I have read makes me excited for the rest.
