Bought my first DSLR today

Bought a Canon Rebel XSi, and I have no idea what I'm doing. ;-)

I'm a huge nerd, so I'm hoping I can figure out what all these neat buttons and knobs control! I bought the camera because I will be embarking on a month long (or longer) roadtrip across the country, and darn it I just don't think the point and shoot is gonna cut it... although I did just pick up a nice little Powershot SX210 IS a few weeks ago, and it's pretty nice.

I mostly take pictures of my animals. So here are some pictures. Sometimes I take pictures of other things, like birds or trees or junk ;-)

I joined because I am going to be taking the trip of a lifetime, and I would like a ton of (hopefully good, I'd even settle for decent) pictures from the journey.
