Has anyone made business cards up and can tell me if my design is within the standard printing cut off guidelines?

Vertical Business Card by ZDiBeradin, on Flickr

I went for the vertical

I like it...

But personally I think the name (Corey Amaya) should be larger or more dominant on the card... As it is I had to search to determine who's card it was... I would think as a business card.. the person's name should be secondary only to the business name.

thanks for the feed back! I will enlarge it!

You will be safe on the cut off zone.

The only thing I would say about it is that I'm not entirely sure the font used on the information fits with the design. The logo has big block letters, and then we go to a light script text. I understand that you wanted to separate the info from the logo, but I think a more appropriate way to do that is with a nice simple serif font. Not only will the mix of styles be less jarring, it will be easier to read at a glance.

Where are you having them printed? I've always seen that they give/show you a template that shows the guidelines.

thanks for the font issue.. I just did this real quick, but I was mainly concerned with cut off guidelines.

Corey, fellow Burgher, I'm curious as to what you mean by "tile design"???

If it's a business, i highly recommend you to get your own domain. It just doesn't look very professional to have yahoo or hotmail etc.

Secondly, the design is way too busy, not well balanced and hard to read (meaning the viewer need to know exactly what it is at the first glance).

Third, all I saw was Pittsburgh. There's very little that suggests that the business has anything to do with tiling.

Lastly, not sure about the color choice either. Depending on the method of printing, you may need to consider the number of colors due to cost. To have the background filled may also cost more.

When it comes to logo graphics, remember that the same graphic need to be workable on other mediums as well, such as both web and print. Print can include letter heads and other places, and also remember how those mediums get distributed around. The bottom line is, if you are comfortable with the way your logo looks AFTER it's been printed by a copier AND faxed over a thousand miles away, then it's pretty safe. That's one of the reasons most companies keep theirs simple and even avoid gradient and color.
