C&C Please.

I've never posted any of my work before on here, been mainly just a lurker.
I am no way a pro at photography. Just something I like to do and would like to improve on.
I take pictures for my sister, and recently had a wee one so would like to venture into infant photography.
I've always mainly taken pictures of my animals so trying to break into the people world.

I don't have a fancy camera. These were all taken with a Canon Powershot SX20IS. I recently acquired a Sony Cybershot DSC HX20V but have my heart set on saving up for a Canon EOS Rebel T3i. Wanted the T4i but heard there were problems with the touchscreen.

#2 has the best composition in my opinion.

#2 is okay. See how the background is gleaming white? Thats what it should be and not blue like #1. #3 is an awkward angle. Plus you need an upgrade. Your not going to get any thing better then a snap shot with the gear you have now.

And before you buy a camera ask your self this question, " do you have any friends that are photographers that you could borrow lenses from?"

If Yes, then buy what ever brand they use.

You used a wide angle lens, didn't you?

They're definitely a start, but there some significant areas for improvement. First and foremost is WB - each one has a different WB, and none of them are quite right. As mentioned the poses and expressions do appear a little forced. Spend some time on line researching posing and try for more natural looking poses.

I should add I have lighting and backdrops. Although Im not exactly sure where to put the lights :blushing:. On the first two I used the Diamond Drop Backdrops. I think #1 turned blue in post editing. . On #3 it was just a quick shot with the blanket as the backdrop. The skin tone was also probably done post editing. I uped the saturation.

How do they look akward? Is it the way the hands are? I know the little ones positioned akward with the way shes laying but how are the other two? Is it the feet maybe?

Unfortunantly no friends that I have actually like photography. So everyone just has like the kodak cameras. Im saving up to buy a better camera. I would like to buy the lenses I realize they cost but its something that I am really interested in. Even if it is just for close family pictures i would like to have all the gear. Expensive I know but I really love picture taking.

I probably did if it comes equipped in the camera. Right now the cameras that I have arent availiable for any lens attachments.

Will do. I have found some beginner ones on how to pose different subjects.

When your working with newborns, it's best to get them comfortable, trust me, I've had my fair share of mistakes with them lol. I actually like to use the mother as a place for the newborn to lay, right in her arms, just throw a blanket up over her shoulders and cover her arms, that way the babe is comfortable and relaxes and doesn't look so awkward.

You're BG turned blue on the first because your white balance is off.

The material that your daughter is on in 1-3 is a bit distracting.

The poses (especially the third pic) seem very 'staged' and awkward, as previously mentioned.

In the second set, the first is very flat. Work on your lighting and lighting angles.

2-2 looks underexposed.
2-3 the lights in the foreground are distracting, and a bit over exposed, while her face seems slightly underexposed
2-4 again, lighting is flat
2-5 the composition could be improved. The bright rr track running through your nephew's head kills it. Moving to the left or right would have helped. Remember to look not only at your subject when composing, but everything else in the frame. Lines especially.

All in all though, you're off to a good start, and with some practice, you'll knock it out of the park.
