I caught this asian black kite with his eyes closed, given the unique lighting and the posture of the bird I tried to give it an eerie feeling, but not very sure what to think about it..

Any C&C would be appreciated!

It's a good photo, Raj, but because I know your average standards are better, I'd probably call this one a "near miss."
For me, it's not so much about the closed eye as it is the deep shadows on the Kite's head neck and breast area--and because it's black, it just loses a lot of detail.

Perhaps you could work at lifting the shadows and getting more detail in there--or just bin this one and go stalk that Black Kite until you get an even better picture!

(NOTE: And when I say "bin it," I don't mean toss it because it's no good. I do like it--but I certainly wouldn't include it in your portfolio as representing your best.)

Raj, firstly, how are you? :)

Secondly, I'm not as nice as Sharon is so I'm just gonna say it.... me no likey this pict.

I don't like the processing I don't like the composition..

How was the original like?

Ah well!! It was worth a post :icon_rolleyes:
Thanks a lot Sharon for the honest critique, although I really doubt I can do much with the shadows as it was taken as a jpeg in my p&s, not much data is there to recover. :frown-67:
I think I will just "bin it", and start searching for him again!

Oh, I can never hate you even if I tried!! :lovey::lovestruck:

I am fine, I know I have been very irregular here. Just been so very busy lately with my job hunt. Although I had bagged a good offer, I just wanted to spend some more time looking for a better offer and it might just have paid off with the interview I gave at Ericsson yesterday (boy was it tough!).
If all goes well however, my job hunting should be over for now and I'll be back out with my camera in a few days!! :boogie:

And I really appreciate your straight forward critique as well, I don't post here to just listen to nice compliments you know! (Sometimes I do! :345:)
The original wasn't really very good because of the blown out sky, the highlights were too much for it to work in anything other than black and white!

I'll start posting more often now!! :1247:

YOU MUST INFORM US ABOUT THE JOB!!!!

you'll get it for sure ;)

Very creepy (which I think is what you were going for) but hard on the eyes with the super bright background.

I'm not a huge fan of the image as-posted, but I think the pose and closed eye are too good to waste. I would try processing it into a negative and seeing what you can do from there, or compositing Tweety-bird onto another background.

John's comment got me thinking (oh, and thanks a LOT, John, thinking wasn't really on my agenda today! lol):

SOMEWHERE, not too terribly long ago, I think I recall somebody starting a "Processing Challenge" thread, where you post an unprocessed photo and allow others to process it however they want. I think there might have even been voting or something in that thread, but anyway…this might be an interesting photo to do that sort of challenge with, see if anyone else comes up with something that you wouldn't think to do!

 thank you guys! That'd sure be interesting, posting it right away to see what others will come up with. I really doubt I can do much better than this though.

____
Now only if I can find that thread!!

Here's the one I was thinking of; I thought it was an ongoing "theme" thread where one person started it, and then it kept going with others, but I was wrong about that.
It was fun though, and interesting to see how different the results were.

Since it wasn't a theme thread, I'd say just start your own!
