Calling All Duck Experts!

[Flying Panda]

This photo was taken at Lake Koon located in South Central Pennsylvania, USA. He/She was in a group of about six others. When I saw them I got the impression they were young Wood Ducks but I don't know for sure. Can anyone definitely identify?

Very nice photo too! They are hard for me to get close to.

Wood Duck.........

Thanks Jeff - The eyes threw me. The Wood Duck in my real old book doesn't have red eyes.

Thanks for the link - I made a note of it on my home page for future reference.

They are very elusive. I ran into them on three different occasions and finally caught this one out in the open.

Nice pic. Love those eyes!

Thanks.

Definitely a wood duck. Most likely a juvenile male wood duck. All of them will look like the female at first.
