Camera recommendations

You are aware that my biggest problem is budget. On one hand i'm trying to buy a decent body which will serve me for years to come, one i will have a tough task of getting even close to it's potential. this takes money. On the other hand, I need a complete setup that will enable to me to shoot some photos. those two are hard to combine i know.

Something like a 70-300 as your only lens wouldn't be my choice. It's entire focal range is in telephoto territory. You say you're a newbie looking to buy your first serious camera. OK, with a budget of $2K to spend on a 7D and a lens, you won't get very far. The 7D is eating up most of your budget. My suggestion would be spend less on a body to leave some room for decent glass. Maybe a 60D or a used 50D. That would leave enough cash for potentially a couple of decent lenses.

Unfortunately, the Sony also has in-the-camera image stabilization.

In-body stabilization is an advantage, as listed in the DPR review you linked.
