Canon in Japan and also Thailand

Hey all I will be heading to Japan first for 16days then to Thailand for 28days and was hoping Canon products would be cheaper there. Does anyone have any experience with this.

Not sure about pricing, but make sure that anything you buy there has a warranty that will be honored in Canada.

Also be sure you're buying somewhere legit. In Thailand, a lot of small places sell gear that has been "liberated" from the local factories by the workers. No warranty in that case, no matter where you live.

I was more so thinking of buying used in Japan. If its anything like cars, used parts are "junk" = low resale price.

but do you think the price point in the two country's will be all that different than here with the exchange?

Camera bodies will not be covered (warranty).

Lenses will. Most other things will. Check on the Canon website first, however.

I'd still get it where you live, unless there's a massive change in price.

I guess you will also have to pay some tax when you go back to Canada (some kind of import tax). Take this into account, the exchange rate and the potential problem with the warranty and decide if it's worth the hassle.
