To me it looks as if the flowers are competing for attention. Whether or not that 'works' is if that's the idea you were trying to convey?

Almost. Tough call. It needs slightly more background separation. Don't know that it could be done easily in camera (a shallower DOF would cause issues shooting the flowers). Dodge?

The blur is nice, but a little too much. What I really meant was simply a darker background (but exposure of the roses the same).
