Hey, I'm posting to this forum because it gets the most traffic, forgive me if this thread is better suited somewhere else...

I was wondering if anyone on here carries their equipment by bike? I'm trying to find a solution that first and foremost protects everything from road vibration, weather, and a possible crash. Accessibility, weight, and convenience are minor considerations compared to keeping everything safe. I've seen a few DIY solutions where people have adapted pelican cases. Some of them seem pretty nice, but there's no standard for it and not much data about how well they perform.

so, any experience? stuff that works? stuff that doesn't? or was it so difficult you gave up trying entirely?

thanks for the help! :sillysmi:

i've been carrying on a carbon fibre Trek roadie with a Lowepro 200 without incedent. Tripod strapped to outside of it.

I throw my camera backpack on some times when I go for a ride on my 600RR.

The safest way is to use a backpack. But if you need an access to it and ready to shoot quick then you will need something like cotton carrier.

I use a modified Swiss Army sling bag which was 37.99$ @ Costco and modified with an extra cross strap so that it doesn't allow any rotations while I take jumps.
I usually have my D90 Gripped with the 18-200 VR lens attached and in the other inner pockets I carry the 70-300 VR/ 50mm 1.8/ SB600 and the 24-80 AF and still have some room to pack in some power-bars and juices.

The bag also has a rain-cover, so if its rainy or muddy, i just flip that over and off I go. So far its been over two years with no issues.

I've considered having the camera on my person, but I was hoping for a way to carry it on the bike itself. I'd like to be able to go some distance with my gear, and I don't fancy riding for 3-4 hours with a pack on... I've also heard some scary stories about spinal injuries from landing on a backpack in a crash, especially one strong enough to protect a camera.

Thanks for the responses though! good info so far

I road cycle and I just toss mine in my backpack. It's got a seperate padded laptop compartment that I stick my tripod in. The tripod head sticks out the top but it doesn't bother me any.

I've ridden for ~2 hours or so with my pack on and it doesn't bother me. Feels damn good to take it off at the end of a ride, but other than that...

Crawled around on the WWW for about 1 minute and found this... camera bag for a bicycle.

Website found here

Bought from here

mm hmm, in my first minute of searching I came up with bags much like that one, however, they do not protect from vibration, weather, or crashes, as I had mentioned....

It is a camera bag, so it is cushioned. That will protect it from vibration and minimal crashes.

Simple...
Don't crash and don't ride in bad weather! If you can't do that, then walk.

I was just trying to help out. If I wanted to be a smartass, I would have posted a picture of a bike with a pink basket and some frilly ass ribbon on the handlebars!

OP, the bag you want doesn't exist.

Ever thought of getting a little trailer to tow? Like the one my dad used to carry his kids (me) around in.
