Hi everybody!

I am looking on renting a studio as soon as the lockdown is over as I am quite inspired lately and was wondering what gel type/model you could use to make an Arri Fresnel be as HMI temperature wise (white basically).

Thank you so much and have a lovely rest of the day!

Kindest regards,

Daniel

By "white" do you mean daylight (~5500K)? ARRI fresnels are tungsten, so they are generally in the 3200K range; you'd need a cut or two of CTB. Info on Lee's 'site here. What specific strength/intensity of gel you'd need would depend on several factors including the age of the bulb, other lighting in the shot, etc. If you're using just the ARRI, then you can always set a custom WB in-camera and correct that way. Rosco has always been my go-to company for lighting gels, but there are Lee and others.

I would use it together with daylight coming through the window, would I have to try first with one CTB and then another one and kind of arrange it that way?

Thank you so much for that link!

Why not block the windows then use a custom wb and also include a color checker passport in each light set up. And there is always b & w.

What part of the continent do you live? East coast is predominantly Lee, west coast is predominantly Rosco not because of anything particular but old preferences, both are high quality gels. GamColor is essentially Rosco now.
