Colours why do you mock me so? VENT!!

This is too cute of a shot not to work on it ...I messed with it some. check your histogram ...it is kind of flat and the heap is in the extreme R due to white

The original looks like the color of the subject is washed out due to veiling flare. What lens were you using, did it have a filter on it, and did you use a hood?

Wait until spring arrives and there will be lovely colors. Until then, there are some special mushrooms that can be found...

Good eye, he was under a pretty heavy clouded sky and the sun was behind him, the light on the front of him was reflecting off snow/window.

"But I am also a fan of soft, muted colors, especially in winter scenes. It's natural!"

Ah that is the "things that make you go hmmmm" quote of the day for me! I think I might have a habit of imposing my preferences (rich, vibrant, sharp colours) onto an image (not just this one) where my likes and dislikes shouldn't come into play. My editing was falling into a standard tweak based on the pictures I take most often, those rich colours. This makes me lose a LOT of the subtlety in shots like this for example. My hand turns very heavy trying to get "my preferences" out of images that just want to be something totally different. Thank you for the "hmmmm moment" !! I think this may make a big difference
