For a name with "byte" in it, you surely do not understand the difference between Megabyte and Megabit right. 8 bits in a byte?

And yes, you can easily obtain greater than 21mbps and no, I have not personally obtained anything close to 160mbps.

I'm tired right now so sorry for my grumpy attitude. I'll check tomorrow sometime and help you out if someone hasn't fixed the problem. Personally from what I read, I would check your auto sense settings if that router has one. Might not be switched to 100full. Just a possibility. GL.

No, it wasn't showing off in the slightest so apologies if it was taken that way. It was in a response to IByte stating there is "But again you are not going to get 21mbs from a wireless connection".

I disagree, I have just downgraded my connection because i didn't feel i needed the extra speed, this is what i am getting now, wirelessly to my laptop which is about 15 feet from the router.




A few weeks back i was easily getting up to 25 MBps using the same wireless connection.

e.rose, before you go to the trouble of switching out the router, it might be worth making sure the problem is not your computer. Do you have another device you could test your router with (say, another computer, a phone or an ipad or something)? I can't imagine any new router being that slow, so there's clearly something off in the negotiation between your computer and the router, and the culprit could be either one.

If you've had better luck with the same computer before (with another router), then sure, replacing the router might be worth trying but don't ignore the possibility of the computer being the problem.

In fact, here's a recent test of a router that got 339mbps on wireless (Asus RT-AC66U 802.11ac Dual-Band Wireless-AC1750 Gigabit Router Review - Routers - CNET Reviews).

Try keeping your router atleast 6ft from your modem. There might be some interference. Id go the length of the cable if you could.

Yep.. they work well! I am deploying those at work for the cellphone and IPAD users...

She got the replacement today... and she is getting wireless speeds of about 24mb or so down, and 4mb up... she seems happy!

Actually I should have been more clear talking from FB and here. The Belkin( which is funny they are buying the Cisco's Linksys line)she had was in a nutshell a lemon and I'm generally biased against Belkin anyway . Not too mention IMO is never a good idea to buy the cheapest, to my understanding for a 2 story building.

So yes my hiccup for at most being long winded. Oh for missing "M" and "p" from my earlier posts. But it's pint night in Chicago any suggestions around Elm Grove?

A different 802.11N wireless router from a different vendor, or same Belkin, or not even an N ... or is the one you mentioned, the D-Link 802.11N ?

D-link 655 Extreme N. I had an extra laying around... didn't need it, so sent it to her. Sent it Friday, she got it today... and she got it setup pretty quick! lol! (she did say she would stop by TPF later...)
