Confused, wireless or not?

Ok, I have my old sb15 from my Nikon FG set up from many moons ago. I can't afford a good flash just yet, but I am in the future. Following the advice here to get a wireless transmitter/trigger set up to use my sb15 off camera. I found one on amazon fairly inexpensive. When I got it, it wasn't wireless at all, like advertised. I'm going to try and post a pic of what I got so you can see for yourself and let me know if it is indeed wireless or not.

After reading the directions over, and over, I cant for the life of me figure out how to use this off camera without using the (short) cord provided. I want to mount it on a tripod, but cant do it with this exact set up. I can get it to fire no problem, but only using the cord. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

....so, my flash would go on that hot shoe and the trigger will pick up the signal when I release the shutter?

What do you mean? As in does it have to be compatible with a certain brand? No. It's generic and will work with any brand. It's not TTL, but neither is the other receiver you have. That's the only downside of cheapies. Otherwise? They are amazing for using ANY flash with your camera. If your neighbor has olympus? you can put the trigger on your camera and use his flash.

Does the receiver have a PC plug on it, or 3.5mm? I can't tell in the first picture. Looks more like 3.5mm in the second though...

The other short cord (PC to 3.5mm) is in case your camera doesn't have a hot shoe (it would still need a PC jack though). The transmitter should have a 3.5mm jack in it. (edit - It might be smaller than a 3.5mm - it is on my transmitter... Still - the cord is to connect the transmitter to the camera if you don't have a hot shoe. If you have a hot shoe, you don't need that cord.)

If that is actually a PC wire on the receiver (hard to tell what it is - looks like 3.5mm in the second pic), he doesn't even need that. He just needs to plug the receiver into the PC jack on the flash.

Yeah, The way he was talking I assumed that flash didn't have one. So then I don't see the problem at all except that he thought That wireless meant there wouldn't be any wires at all not understanding that Wireless refers to a "Wireless radio transmitter"

I wasn't sure either, but I looked that flash up - and it does indeed have a PC port on it. Assuming that is in fact a PC cord on the receiver, I see no reason it wouldn't work without buying anything else.

Then you'd need a 3.5mm to pc sync adapter to go with it. We're going much more complicated here.

This is assuming that the plug on the receiver is a PC connector. Disregard this post if it is 3.5mm.

If that is a 3.5mm plug, the cheapest thing to do would be to go to RadioShack, buy a female 3.5mm jack, and swap the PC jack on the flash out for the 3.5mm one. Total cost, about $1 (assuming you have a soldering iron and solder already).

The next cheapest option is to buy a different receiver.
