I would of focused on one of the closer petals of the flower.

It's difficult to provide good C&C with such a small image, however I agree with both of your thoughts.

Learning curve that is for sure ,, I am trying to learn how to use the different autofocus options

Also i should have used my tripod ,, I need to go get a new quick release plate today , Tried this hand held and i am pretty sure that didn't help
