Went to shoot another local band tonight while they practiced, as well as some set up shots earlier. Since the club was not open, no light shows to deal with, however since everything is black, I had to strobe it. Brought all my portable gear and went at it. Had a lot of fun. Nowhere near finished processing the shoot, but here are a few I liked and thought I'd share.

Couple of guys need haircuts, another needs hair. Oh. that's right, this is a band!
I like Koala sitting down with the guitar.
I'm thinking you used on camera flash. These are hard to do any other way unless you have some help.
If I have someone with me I get them to hold the flash. :)

No on camera flash. I had my monolight and two flashes in stands with umbrellas. One set up as shoot through and the other as reflective.

Depending on where I used one two or all. I also had a reflector set up on a stand as well. All of my stuff is cordless and portable, so I just moved stands around as I needed them.

Check the catchlights in the eyes, that is usually how you can tell a persons setup.

The one with Dylan sitting with his guitar is one of my favorites. I cropped him out of the group shot because he looked awesome. I'll post the group shot up in a minute so you can see where it came from.

For that shot, I had monolight camera left and flash on stand camera right reflective umbrella. both strobes were about 5 to 6 feet away from camera, strobes and camera about ten feet away from band. Stobes about 7 feet in the air angled downward. shutter speed low to catch the ambient light and strobes set on almost full power however exposed to just pick up a bit of the strobe...enough to light them.

actually I am wrong, I'll post the group photo up anyway, but when reviewing the group photo I liked his pose so rather than crop in post I moved in and framed up the shot of only him, so it's not a crop.

Here is the group shot that gave me the idea to frame up the middle dude. As you can see the outer guys are a bit too bright, thats about where the strobes were. When I framed up Dylan for next shot, I was right in the middle, strobes in same spot.

I might process this one later, fixe hot spots and edit out the puke splash (whatever it is) on the floor.

Crop from above shot and processed for grungesque black and white.

I'm impressed with your lighting setup then. Way to go. Your way ahead of me. I have some of the stuff but dragging it around and setting up is a another thing.
I like the group shot.

I really was not sure what I'd need, so I brought it all. lol. I will say I am happy with what I have aquired over the past year as my goal was to make it all portable...and it really was not that much of a pain. My assistant was not able to come so I was a bit hesitant at first. Worked out well though.

one more, then I'm off to bed. I'm tired. lol
