You have any tips for shooting through the fencing?

Yep. Always take a set of bolt cutters...

My missus is always carrying my tripod, so she just throws the cutters over the other shoulder. Easy!

The background of the elephants enclosure doesn't make for a nice shots with all heavy duty steel fencing, they are getting moved to the open range zoo this year though. They should be more happier there.

Cheers Don was a good day trip, but it's kinda depressing there seeing them all confined to those small enclosures.
