Cropping

Trying to get a hand on cropping my photos. How does this one look? Well not sure what I'm doing wrong but here is a link to the picture. Thanks for any and all ideas.

You will do better if you just post the shot here, instead of linking! Many of us won't click on links. But if it is here.. you will get feedback! Also if you are are asking for C&C on the crop, you might want to post the original also... so we can see what you did!

Cropping a photo has a lot to do w/ what is visually please to the viewer. Here is a link to learn...=) After you have learned the guidelines....do whatever the hell you want!!! =)

My cropping opinion, would be to do something that is in between these two. 1 has too much rock/track.. . . 2 has not enough. I would go halfsies, and then clone out the pipe.

And maybe a snip off the top as well.

I find cropping to be alright sometimes. as long as the wife doesn't swing too hard.

Well, this is just a matter of taste after all... But here's my try at it... It'll probably need some cloning to remove some of the objects near the borders, but other than that I believe a tighter composition works best here, even though you have to sacrifice some part of that column of smoke...

A little off the top, a bit off the right side, so the train in on a Rule Of Thirds (ROT) power point, edited out various stuff, add some clarity, contrast, and sharpening, and you get something like this:

Here's my take on it. went a different way.

Cropped 8x10 format horiz vs vert

got rid of all those power lines, poles, and pesky people.

Hmmm I dunno. IMO the rule of thirds leaves too much gravel on the bottom. The picture feels a bit unbalanced to me. I would have taken more off the bottom.

Thanks for all 0f the comments. Liked all of the re-editing of my photo it looks so much better than what I did. Time to practice with my Photoshop program to figure out how to remove those pesky people that are always there.
