D200 to old?

Age of a camera is not an issue. Capability and condition are the concerns.

Any camera can do any kind of photography (landscape, sports, whatever). The only time you might need a certain body to do a certain kind of work is if you're doing sports professionally (unlikely in your case), you need a certain low-light capability (wedding photograpers often need this), or you need a certain resolution (very rarely the case).

As always, buy the best camera that you can afford. Any thing in the DXXX line above a D100 is a great camera. (D100 is one of my baby's and I'll always have a soft spot for her, but the simple fact is Nikon figured out a LOT in the D200 that is SOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than the D100)

Stay away from any camera that doesn't have a focusing motor in the body (D40, D50, D60)
