I like this one great tonal range and DOF. nice composition

The snow is a tad blown out but you can adjust that with layers in PS.

thanks guys, in responce to you saying it doesnt capture the horror, this image is of the 2 torture poles where jews were hung by the skin on the back of their neck if they 'misbehaved'. it wasn't sign posted or glamorourised but the rest of the entire place was and that threw shivers down my spine!

I know what the poles were used for. Now if you were to capture the inside of a gas chamber, or the poles with wood balls that were used to beat the prisoners, or even the beams they were hung by backwards if they "misbehaved". That would have been true horror.

i got them too but i never included them in my final piece. i love that you know what they are bram, no one else does and it infuriates me lol like its still a big secret

I personally think you should,im not mentally ill,but i love macarbe things, and if the photos are done nicely, odd putting that word here, but it could show alot more Horror of the situation the Prisoners had to deal with

To me it's life. My grandfather passed away in Dachau during the second world war. I am from The Netherlands, and I immigrated to Canada almost 10 years ago. I was only 9 when I moved here so I never really knew about it until I was sat down by my other Grandfather who told me about the war and my home town which he helped to liberate. I have since gone to school to become a history prof to teach everybody about this. When I took history in my senior year my teacher mis informed the entire class of those times so when I corrected him in class he made me teach the class so I did.

wooow bram! my family escaped from Sokolow just before they would have been shepharded in, they came over to the UK by mistake, was supposed to end up in New York. Are you a fellow jew then?

i'll dig them out n edit them in at some point then :) i should go back and explore more next year, my mum wants to go!

You shot that with your FM2? Such a badass camera... is it chrome or all black? I have a chrome FE2 :)
What film did you shoot it on?

I think the black and white was a good choice for the dark subject matter. Exposure looks good - nice job if you developed it yourself.

I wouldn't have known it was Auschwitz if you hadn't said so. You mentioned the torture poles, I'm assuming that was the intended subject, but they are overpowered by a contrasty and interesting background (the wall) and the bright left side of the frame (along with the people) really pull attention away as well.

For the record, I personally don't dislike anyone on the forums - at least not that I can think of.

My Daughter always brings these little forms to order books, they had one about the Holocaust, but written for children to understand. I bought it so we can learn more about it together. I think it is important to know our history, good and bad. When I seen those poles I was thinking of something less sinister, now I have shivers down my spine.

No I am not a jew, I am Roman Catholic thought I don't practise it. My grandfather was a captured soldier also trying to liberate my home town of Bergen op Zoom in south-west Holland. He was captured trying to do so.

That is a great thing to do definately i also think it is extremely important to know our history and how it happened. Even if it is brutal and true.

I think stepping to your right and isolating the hook and pole against the white sky would have made for a more interesting picture.

I like them a lot, and the fact that you know the history and knew what pics to take to make the place very real to people like me who never heard of it. Thanks for both chic!:thumbup:
