I love that second shot! The first is nice too, but the color of the clapboard and the overall palette of it is just gorgeous. Wonderfully rendered.

Poverty is pretty overwhelming here. But a short drive it's all water front homes worth millions owned by out of staters who contribute nothing tax wise but yet use their influence to prevent any development lest it disrupts their "vacationland".

If you are speaking of maine, no, we don't want development here. Don't want to end up like all those sellouts with billboards in mass. There is a reason Maine seceded from mass. we don't like how they think.
And the less jobs, the less people live here. Not a bad thing. The biggest concern is how to get rid of the tourists, or maybe find a way for them to just leave their money here and only stay one day then go home.
waterfront homes, yeah, big problem. drives up the land prices the fishermen cant afford to keep deep for a affordable price. we should just ban out of state ownership of waterfront, especially from those that live in mass.

Maine doesn't have property tax? And nobody mows their lawns and they ship in all their food privately and only use solar panels and private desalinization plants?

I love those photos! Probably because I love old run down places. My dream home would be one built in the late 1800's without a ton of modernization, especially if it was an old farmhouse. My husbands Grandparents have one and nothing is level in that place!

Maine is a very old state population wise. Our young people leave in droves because there are no jobs. We used to be a very industrial state with dozens of paper mills, shoe factories and other industry. Now paper mills are closing on a daily basis laying off thousand and nothing is going in to replace those jobs.

We don't want to become Massachusetts, but we would like some opportunity for those who stay. When was the last time you were north of Augusta?
